Arsenal are said to be close to signing Celta Vigo super star Nolito and the Spanish international will be the Gunners first January signing, according to reports.
According to the Express via Mundo Derpotivo, Arsenal are in talks with Celta Vigo over the transfer of Nolito and the negotiations have gone far with only the transfer fee that is left to be agreed on.
The report also claims Barcelona could not rival Arsenal for the winger’s signature because of financial problems they're facing giving the Gunners free run in the race to sign the midfielder.
Previous reports have claimed Celta Vigo will only sell their star player if his £12.6m release clause is activated and from all indications the Gunners can as well trigger the release clause and tripple the midfielder’s salary. It will represent a heavy return for Celta as they signed the player for just €2.5m in 2013.
Should Nolito join Arsenal, he will have to compete with the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Alex-oxlade Chamberlain, Joe Campbell and Theo Walcott for a spot in the starting xi. However the player is a versatile winger who can also play as a centre forward and his versatility will help him should he complete a move to the Emirates.
The midfielder has scored seven goals in as many games for Celta this season.
Arsenal fans, should Arsene Wenger sign him? Comment.
